I have tried to create the protagonist of the story adhering to the description as written in Dostoevsky’s novel as taken from The Literature Network, (http://www.online-literature.com/dostoevsky/crimeandpunishment/) I’m not exactly sure which translation is being used here, however it is a very useful resource because its searchable and also saves me transcribing the sections of interest. The image below of is of my first attempt at Rasklonikov in his rags (without jacket) based on the following quote:
“He was so badly dressed that even a man accustomed to shabbiness would have been ashamed to be seen in the street in such rags… He was, by the way, exceptionally handsome, above the average in height, slim, well-built, with beautiful dark eyes and dark brown hair.”
In addition to this I have also based it on John Simm’s Rasklonikov in the 2002 BBC adaptation of Crime and Punishment:

I have tired to faithfully recreate the long brown hair, dark eyes and stained clothing as well as I could using the sprite editor within SiD, I think as first attempts go it isn’t too bad. The problem I will have is with the lack of detail in the character model, when I have more characters I’ll need to ensure that they remain easily distinguishable.

I know its not exactly the best designed character in the world, however I believe its how I’d imagine Rasklonikov in 8-bit form. Obviously we all have different ideas as to how exactly we’d imagine characters in a novel, so any input would be great.
Peace out!
